The
Bureau of Indian Affairs superintendent on the
Fort Peck Reservation in Montana has been indicted for stealing from the tribal loan program.
Florence A. White Eagle, 63, has been charged with conspiracy to convert tribal credit program proceeds by federal employees, theft from an Indian tribal organization, bribery, concealment of public corruption, public acts affecting a personal financial transaction and misprision of a felony, The Billings Gazette reported.
Federal prosecutors say White Eagle was part of a scheme that stole more than $1 million from the tribe's loan program over 10 years.
Three BIA employees and at least seven other people have been charged in connection with the case.
